StiPP will invest your pension contributions differently

From February 2025, StiPP will invest your pension contributions with slightly more risk. Compared to the other pension providers, we are now investing fairly cautiously. Research by StiPP shows that participants are willing to take more risks for a better pension. Investing with a little more risk can help your pension assets grow faster. In this way, you will soon be able to receive more pension (monthly). As you get older, your pension gets closer and closer. Then we reduce the investment risk in steps.

From 1 February, we will reduce the investment risk a little later: from the age of 52 (this was from the age of 47). This means that we reduce the risk in 15 years, instead of 20 years. We are making these adjustments to ensure a better expected pension for you.

Slightly more risk per age group

We invest your pension contribution at every age with an acceptable risk for the best possible return. We call this investing through a 'lifecycle' . At a younger age, retirement is still a long way off. You can still absorb fluctuations in returns. We take a little more investment risk and invest more in commercial securities. As you get older, we reduce the investment risk. We then invest more and more in fixed income securities.

Investing with a little more risk for more returns

Here's what will change for you from 1 February 2025:

  • We invest for the younger ages with a little more risk (we increase investments in real assets, such as shares and real estate).
  • We reduce the investment risk later: from theage of 52 (this was from the age of 47). This means that we will reduce the risk over 15 years. This is now 20 years.
  • The graph below shows that the distribution of investments in arm's length securities, long-term fixed income securities and medium-term fixed income securities.

What do you notice?

We are going to invest your pension in a slightly riskier way. That means the return can be slightly higher. This will also allow your pension to grow faster. It may also mean that your pension decreases a little faster from time to time. With these adjustments, we are still investing more cautiously than the other pension administrators. You can read more about it on our website.
